Washing machine troubleshooting
Tell us what you noticed and we’ll help narrow it down.
Let’s get to the bottom of it.
Tell us what you’ve noticed. We’ll help narrow down the cause and find a safe next step.
Safety comes first
Use only what you already noticed. Don’t run the appliance to gather clues, move it, force a door or open internal parts.
Burning, sparks, repeated electrical trips or water near electrics mean stop using it and seek appropriate help. Keep away from wet or sparking electrical parts. If there’s smoke or fire, leave and call 999 or 112 in the UK.
Violent shaking, severe banging or substantial movement also mean stop using it until an installer or appliance engineer has assessed it.
A little more context
What can this assessment help with?
We use your observations about water, the previous cycle, laundry and spin behaviour to narrow down the explanation. If the evidence is unclear or the issue needs professional assessment, we’ll explain the next step. This does not cover every possible appliance fault.
Will my make or model change the result?
Optional make, model and code details are for your own reference. They do not change the general diagnosis. Follow your exact model’s manual for any permitted user check.
What is the guidance based on?
Deterministic rules use corroborated manufacturer guidance and Electrical Safety First advice. The result explains which observations support it. A match is not a confirmed repair or a probability.
