Severe movement? Stop using the machine.

Violent shaking, severe banging or grinding, moving across the floor or striking units needs assessment before another attempt. Don’t restrain, move or tilt the appliance.

Burning smells, sparks, repeated electrical trips or water near electrics also mean stop. Keep away from wet or sparking electrical parts. If there’s smoke or fire, leave and call 999 or 112 in the UK. Never force the door, reach into a moving drum, open panels or bypass a safety device.

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT

Wet laundry.
Several explanations.

Start with the guided check above. These answers explain the patterns behind it.

Back to the guided check
Why is my washing machine not spinning?

A selected no-spin option, an uneven or tightly packed load, retained water, installation or door issues can interrupt spin. Internal faults can produce similar symptoms. This check compares observations; it cannot confirm a broken part.

Why are clothes still wet after washing?

Reduced spin may be intentional on some programmes. If water remains in the drum, start with drainage. If it has drained, the previous setting, load and spin behaviour help distinguish the next step. Follow the exact manual and garment care labels; maximum spin is not suitable for every load.

Why does it keep trying to balance or seem stuck on spin?

Some machines repeatedly redistribute an uneven load before reaching spin speed. A single absorbent item, very small load or mixed weights can contribute. Pauses alone do not establish imbalance. Severe movement or banging means stop, not another attempt.

What if Rinse Hold or no spin was selected?

These options can intentionally omit final spin; Rinse Hold can also retain final-rinse water. The controls differ by model. Use the exact manual to choose a suitable spin or drain/spin option and follow the clothes’ care labels.

Can this check identify a belt or motor failure?

No. Drive, motor, sensing, suspension and control faults can look alike. If the drum did not turn during washing either, or proper spin fails under ordinary conditions, an appliance engineer needs to assess it. Don’t remove panels or start a programme solely to watch the drum.

Does my make, model or code change the result?

No. They are optional reference details. Only a warning meaning you have already confirmed in the exact manual can influence this generic assessment. Free text is never interpreted.

What does match strength mean?

Observed issue, Strong match, Possible match and Unclear describe how specific the observations are to a troubleshooting pattern, not the probability of a correct diagnosis. Programme states have no match badge. Safety always takes priority.
